Tiled floors give any space a strengthened personality. Yes, it may be cold to the sole but tiles are durable, long lasting, and give a certain shimmer on any floor. Given the many uses and features of this kind of flooring, many homeowners have chosen to tile rooms that are almost always exposed to moisture. So it is no surprise that tiles are perfectly matched in kitchens, bathrooms, and most laundry rooms, in a home.
This type of flooring is also known for its quick and easy cleaning process; however, just because it is easy to clean tiled floors, doesn’t mean that you do not clean them often.
Keeping your tiled floors clean is just one of the many responsibilities of being a dutiful homeowner. Now, as the owner, you know that seeing your property spick and span is one of the many joys of having your own home; and seeing that tiles are very easy to clean, there is virtually nothing to stop you from keeping your space well-maintained.
Although most homeowners have mastered the art of tile cleaning, there are still some who are dabbling in this form. If you are one of those people, do not worry and do not be embarrassed. Here are a few tips you may follow in order to improve your tile cleaning skills.
Wipe off Spills ASAP
Although this type of flooring can handle a few spills here and there, wiping these liquids off immediately will save it from sustaining any water damages and stains. You want to keep your floors for a very long time and drying your tiled floors after any type of spill will prevent the possibility of mold growing under them. Through this action, you will also be able to retain its original color.
Routine Cleanup is a MUST
Like what was said earlier, tiled floors need to be cleaned and maintained regularly to keep them from deteriorating faster. Simply mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and using cleaning products will do the job just fine.
Cleaning Different Types of Tiles
Maybe the tiles in your home differ from room to room. One may have ceramic while the other has stone. If you have tiles made from different materials, you must know that their cleaning strategies differ as well.
Ceramic Tiles: Among the other types of tiles, ceramic is the easiest one to clean. All you need is ½ cup of white vinegar and a gallon of warm water. You may also replace the vinegar with rubbing alcohol with the same measurements.
Vinyl Tiles: With this type of tile, use ½ cup white vinegar and mix it with a gallon of warm water. Before mopping up the floor, it is best to ring the mop twice.
Stone Tiles: Because of the fragility of this tile, it usually requires a special pH neutral cleaner. So to clean stone tiles, you must mix 1 tbsp. of oil soap into 2 gallons of water. Once applied, rinse the tile completely afterward to remove the soap residue. Then, use a shine mop or a towel to not only dry the tile, but also give it a finished shine.
Homemade or Home Alternative Cleaners
If using a mop and vinegar solution isn’t working, you may also consider using the following:
- Lighter Fluid
- Pencil Erasers
- Tea Leaves
- Steel Wool
- WD-40
